Golf Day 2017 – May 9

Our tenth annual Costa Golf Day was held on 9th May this year and we were lucky with the weather again.  With over 200 people taking part it was a brilliant day of Golf, and fundraising, for Peeblesshire Youth Trust.

Peeblesshire Youth Trust is a local charity that works with all 9 primary schools in Tweeddale from Walkerburn to West Linton.  They focus is on working with children who ‘fly below the radar’, the children who struggle to find their place, who don’t make friends easily because they are shy or just struggle with the social pressures that exist today.  They provide mentors who volunteer to work with these kids for up to 3 years from primary 6 to the end of first year at High School, supporting them, encouraging them and introducing them to new opportunities to help them not only realise but achieve their full potential.

Robert Harrison, Vice Chair of Peeblesshire Youth Trust said “Peeblesshire Youth Trust continues to go from strength to strength, mentoring more children every year; this of course means that the need for our services is also growing.  Our annual Golf Day is a celebration of the work that the charity does, but also a reminder about the scale of the issues that our young people face.”

Jamie Buchanan, regional manager of Costa Coffee commented “We are delighted to be working with Peeblesshire Youth Trust, a fantastic local charity that is focused on young people.  At Costa we are committed to working with local partners to build stronger communities and see this partnership as a key way of achieving this in Peeblesshire.  We are very excited to be part of this Golf Day and are so pleased that we have raised lots of money for this fantastic charity.”

Halloween Havoc

We had an amazing time at Lamancha Hub carving pumpkins and decorating scary halloween biscuits. This kids got stuck into the pumpkins and after a bit of yukiness soon had their hands covered in pumpkin innards scooping out seeds.

Buddy Up Day

This year we are celebrating National Mentoring Day for the first time in Tweeddale. Local schools are taking part in our Buddy Up Day and raising awareness of PYT and mentoring. Each school is asking their pupils to buddy up with someone who they do not normally play with, either in their own year or in a different year.

Summer Fun

We had a great time at our Summer games night, that was obviously held indoors due to the weather. With big thanks to one of our previous mentors Marc, for coming up with some fantastic games for the kids to play
